![]() The keyboard shortcuts are worse, less intuitive, harder to remember, use, and not easy enough to modify. I also understand the inherent value of FOSS, and that I could "fix it myself" if I wanted to or (more to the point) if I knew how.Īll that being said, seriously this will start a flame war, Freeciv sucks. I also understand that it has incrementally improved over the years due to their tireless efforts. I understand that the devs making freeciv have labored long and hard on a work that they do primarily for passion. Now anybody who wants to be a cry baby should stop reading. I play Civ 2 in exactly this way at least once a month. You can even run in "Seamless Mode" which makes it look and act like a native app. The Good News is though, that with Virtualbox, you can install a TinyXP VM very easily, and run Civ 2 very comfortably in a VM, as it does not take a lot of resources given it's age (and I turn off the heralds because they are annoying). There is actually a bug actively being worked on in Wine that is preventing game play, and apparently a user recently even had success loading a saved game, which is a step in the right direction, as that was previously impossible. So, like you, I have tried in vain and often to get Civ 2 running in Wine. Civ 4 is better, and certainly LOOKS good, but is about 10% as fun as Civ 2. In fact, I try most games from a torrent before purchase now as a direct result of how horrible Civ 3 was. Civ 3 was a huge disappointment, and one of the worst games I ever spent money on. ![]() ![]() I too, am a HUGE fan of the original Civ 2.
